FISH EYES
Theatre Passe Muraille, Harbourfront Centre, Canadian Tour, The Other Festival - Chennai, India
BY ANITA MAJUMDAR | DIRECTED & DRAMATURGED BY GREGORY PREST
Dora Nomination for Outstanding Choreography
Fish Eyes tells the story of the angst-ridden Meena, an exceptional Indian dancing teenager who would trade it all in just to be a "normal" high school girl. Luckily, Kalyani Aunty is still around to remind Meena of the importance of embracing her origins and talents. This comedic "east meets west" story celebrates the joy of youth and heritage.

SELECTED PRESS:
“With a single actor, Prest creates a sense of community on the stage. Sharply actualised guru and reluctant sishya are networked into a society of contrasts. Farce, caricature, spoof and slapstick are all part of the irreverent shots at our sacred cows.” - The Hindu
“Fish Eyes has all the right moves…a charming and clever solo show. Credit to director Gregory Prest for helping to shape such a winning production. Not to be missed . . . if you can get a ticket. “ - Culture Vulture Victoria
“The phrase deliriously Canadian has never come into my mind before, but that's exactly what Anita Majumdar's Fish Eyes is…. Because the energies of teen and Indian culture play off one another to giddy effect, the show is always buoyant. Choreographed by Majumdar and directed by Gregory Prest, Fish Eyes is wonderfully precise. Majumdar stomps one foot, with its anklet of bells, for instance, to signal changes in character or plot direction. That simple device is amazingly effective.” - Georgia Straight Vancouver’s News & Entertainment Weekly
